We are committed to environmental sustainability.
Our company; a leader in the non-alcoholic beverage industry, has restated its commitment to environmental sustainability. In a recent company statement, Legal, Public Affairs and Communications Director, Sade Morgan stated: “NBC is part of Coca‑Cola Hellenic Bottling Company, and as a business, we have iintegrated sustainability and corporate responsibility into every part of our business, building long-term value for our stakeholders.”
She further stated that, “NBC is developing new initiatives to drive sustainability in its operations and amongst employees. We recently launched ‘The Water Pledge’, an internal campaign aimed at creating more awareness within our operations to commit to water minimization initiative in our plants, with a pioneer activation in our Asejire Plant. In addition, we have established a Sustainability Award, to ensure operational day to day milestone efforts add up to sustained improvements and best practices in quality, safety and the environment, demanding a healthy competition amongst different NBC production locations.”
Speaking on how we treat our waste water, Mrs. Morgan said, “We ensure that all water returned to the natural environment is treated to a level that supports fish life. Our 11 bottling plants spread across Nigeria have on-site waste water treatment plants. Treated water released into the environment is suitable for use in agriculture as well as supporting plant and aquatic life.”
In 2016, Coca‑Cola HBC was named beverage industry leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for the third consecutive year. This three-peat award celebrates the Coca‑Cola Hellenic Group’s commitments to upholding their leading position in the beverage industry when it comes to sustainability. NBC is contributing to meeting the Coca‑Cola Hellenic Bottling Group target of 40% reduction by 2020 in its environmental footprints, through water and energy consumption reduction initiatives.
In addition, together with our partners, Coca‑Cola Nigeria Limited, we are taking the lead, in collaboration with other social enterprises, for collection and recovery of post-consumer packaging materials as part of our extended producer responsibility initiative. NBC Employees also participate in volunteering initiatives such as tree planting and other clean up exercises, during their work time. One of which was during the 2017 World Environment Day, when NBC collaborated with various state governments and stakeholders to plant trees and sensitization walks to create awareness for environmental sustainability.
