The World Cup is one of the most glamorous events the world over, and as 32 countries prepare to jostle for the prestigious trophy, millions of football fans around the world seek the opportunity to behold the trophy.
For many Nigerians, it was a dream come true as the Coca‑Cola system delivered the trophy to two major cities: Abuja and Lagos on the FIFA World Cup Trophy TourTM
The Managing Director, Nigerian Bottling Company Limited, Mr. George Polymenakos who spoke at the press conference organized to unveil the trophy charged the Nigerian Super Eagles to go for glory in the upcoming Mundial taking place in Russia.
“We at NBC and Coca‑Cola would always be committed to bringing happiness and refreshment to Nigerians, this partly informs why we are aligned with FIFA on this World Cup Trophy Tour that would see the trophy touch 91 cities and 51 countries, spreading happiness and psyching up the people to get ready for what is unarguably the greatest sporting fiesta coming up this year in Russia” he said.
The trophy was then received at the State House, Abuja by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari who promised that the government would support the Eagles ahead of the World Cup in June.
The President then commended Coca Cola for investing in football, urging other private organisations to emulate the firm.
Some ex-football stars who were part of the tour include Samson Siasia, Austin Eguaveon, and former French International, Christian Karembeu.
