We are excited to announce that the Abuja manufacturing plant of the Nigerian Bottling Company (a member of Coca‑Cola Hellenic group) received the prestigious Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) Certification in January 2019.
International Water Stewardship Standard, or the AWS Standard drives, recognizes and rewards good water stewardship performance. AWS is a global membership collaboration comprising businesses, NGOs and the public sector. Its members contribute to the sustainability of local water-resources through their adoption and promotion of a universal framework for the sustainable use of water.
This is a milestone achievement for the Coca‑Cola Hellenic Bottling group, as NBC is the first organization in Nigeria, and the first Coca‑Cola bottling plant in Africa to be certified under the AWS global water stewardship program. For the NBC Abuja plant to be accorded this recognition, it was rigorously audited and certified to meet key indicators by credible, third party assessors independent of AWS or the site owners.
We believe that this certification will go a long way to reinforce the commitment and leadership position of NBC and Coca‑Cola Hellenic Bottling company in driving and promoting key environmental stewardship initiatives.
Today, all 8 NBC manufacturing plants have fully functional effluent treatment plant technology which ensure the monitoring and protection of water resources. The treatment plants feature the latest aeration technology - including diffusers and inline process measurements tools - which improve aeration in the treatment tanks and improve biological activity.
